Free Alarm Clock
Tutorials - Programming
Saturday, 26 April 2008
Every once in a while, I challenge myself, I think of a small application that might be useful to me and time myself to see how much time it took me to write it. The latest one, the one I did yesterday night, was an alarm clock which plays mp3 files as the alarm tone (took me 2 hours, I’m not pleased at all). Anyway, I decided to post the app here and maybe someone might use it :) I called it...

Because of lots of requests and some free time, I rewrote Plug And Steal. Although a user might not see drastic changes, all I can say that it has been completely rewritten and no third party software are being used in this version!

Johny

Here's another quick update, a week ago I registerd johny.org from nametech, it took them a week to transfer it... YES 1 FULL WEEK! Their support was fast compared to other registrars but I'm guessing they either lack the technical skills or the manpower, at some point I even lost hope of even getting the domain name and thought I got scammed since I bought the domain through some sort of auction for 40$... In all cases I will start using that domain for a personal blog after 60 days (once I transfer it from nametech), for now it will simply redirect you to this site, I've learned so much from maintining this site, from SEO, PHP, CMS, webdesign... and I will apply all these newly learned skills straight from the start on johny.org, every step I take in "engineering" that site will be documented and will be posted for others to learn from or for others to correct my mistakes =0) Concerning the Johny challenge, I now rank 12th on google, which is a pretty good result I think but not what I anticipated, but then again I still got a day!

Of course the challenge is now pointless because I now have johny.org which without any doubt will be the first result for Johny!

King Johny
Johny - Johny
Wednesday, 23 May 2007

Here's a quick update about my Johny challenge, my challenge post has been cached and I'm now on the 6th page, ranking 51st. As most of you have guessed, I'm writing this post just to raise the Johny keywords on my front page which should end up giving me a better ranking for Johny!

Some interesting facts:

Query / Rank / Total
Crazy Johny/2/338,000
SEO Johny/1/55,700
Crash Johny/5/131,00
Johny cars/1/233,000
Johny google/2/427,000

and here's an irrelative but interesting hit,

does vista/5/107,000,000 (yes out of 107 million heh)

My site is strong enough to get higly ranked on 2+ keywords, for example it's fairly easy for me to get first ranking for "King Johny" but yet very hard to hit just the keyword Johny...

No matter the results of this months challenge, my next months challenge would be the keywords "how to hack vista", heh that should get me a lot of script kiddies! fun o fun!

Now time to give a small tip, if you want to rank high in search engines, don't use images when you can replace them with text, keep in mind that google can't read what's written in images and therefore your page won't appear in search engines, if you're absolutely obliged to put an image, always add an ALT text which describes what the image is...
