Are you Infected?

First off, are you infected?

SymbComWar-A is a worm for Symbian operating system and mobile devices compatible with Nokia Series 60 specification

You can read more about the worm here

To find out if you're infected:

Method 1:

Restart your phone and check immediately your Outbox! Check if the phone is trying to send an mms as it does as soon as you turn it on!

Method 2:

You need 2 phones for this, turn the bluetooth ON on both devices(your phone and another bluetooth enabled phone) wait for around 10 minutes, check if your phone is trying to send something to the other phone without your knowledge, if it does, make sure to REJECT the transfer on the other phone because it will also get infected if you accept...

Method 3:

Take no risks and try the fix, if you find the files mentionned in the fix then you ARE infected.

How to fix and get rid of it:

If you checked the worms info, at the end of the Advanced Tab, it mentions the files which are "evil". These files should be deleted from your phone immediately.

How to:

1) You need a tool which gives you access to the phones filesystem, i use FEXPLORER because it's free, you can download it here Do NOT download it from another site as it could be a virus, the link provided is the creators original link.

2) Send FEXPLORER to your phone using bluetooth, infrared, install it by opening the message received.

3) Open FEXPLORER and go to C:\system\apps (skip to the other files if this folder doesnt exist) delete files commwarrior.exe and comrec.mdl, then move to folder C:\system\updates and delete files comrec.mdl, commwarrior.exe and commw.sis, then move to folder C:\system\recogs and delete comrec.mdl

4) Restart your phone and test if your phone is still infected, if it is than you forgot a file, repeat the steps

5) Voila, you got your phone back to normal!

Spread the word to your friends and family so that we can stop this!

ngage problem
try starting it up without the memory card, if that doesn't work then u could format your ngage using the nokia codes, to format the phone do this: green + * + 3, press these 3 buttons simultaneously and then press the power button (keep all the buttons pressed). Let me know how it goes, good luck!

If it keeps on restarting before you are able to do anything then i think the only thing u can do is format the phone using the nokia codes, this will return the phone to the way u bought it, it will delete everything u installed in it(even the virus) and phone numbers(if in phone mem and not sim)
