Famous tree =0) Part 1 Sky

First off, open the initial image in photoshop, u'll get something like this

step 1


We're going to start by selecting the sky so that we can edit it later on, selecting the sky is a bit tricky since the branches of the tree would give u a hard time therefore what i did was that i selected the tree using the magic wand tool with a tolerance of 40, then i added to that selection the grass and the background houses, in other words, i selected everything except the sky.
step 2

Now that we selected everything other than the sky, go to Select in the top menu and click on inverse, this will select the inverse of what we have selected, in this case, it would be the sky, check it out

step 5

Voila, now we have the sky selected...
Now we copy this selection by going to Edit, copy (or CTRL+C)

step 6

and we paste it back on the original picture by going to edit, paste (CTRL+V)

step 7

we now have a new layer called Layer 1, this layer is the sky that we selected,

we rename this layer to sky so that we dont get lost when we have lots of layers, this is the layer we're going to edit in this tutorial therefore be sure to have it selected...

now that we built the foundations, we can start by editing the color of this layer, to do so, right click on the layer sky and click on blending options, then click on gradient overlay, this is what you should get...

Set the opacity to around 20 and choose the gradient that suits best your taste, this is what i chose...

congrats, u just edited the sky...

you dont need ps6 or above, elements would work just fine.. a little more work, but it can be done.. i am used to CS1, but have elements 2.0 on my home computer right now, and after getting accustomed to it, i can do almost anything i can in CS.. :)
